PAK was founded on 11 December 2014 by Mustafa Özçelik.
In spite of its registration by the Ministry of the Interior, which was not published, the party is facing multiple investigations and arrests because of the use of the word "Kurdistan". The Supreme Prosecutor's Office required the party to change its name, "Kurdistan" being deemed as "racist".
Two party officials were recently sentenced to 15 and 18 months of imprisonment, respectively, for "propaganda for a terrorist organization", here referring to the PKK, the guerilla group PAK is, ironically, ideologically opposed.
